Welcome

  • Welcome to the Department of Special Education at Paterson Public Schools, where our mission is to provide high-quality, individualized education to students with special needs, ages 3 to 21. We are committed to supporting every student’s academic, social, and emotional development through a comprehensive continuum of services delivered in the least restrictive environment possible.

Behind this commitment is a dedicated team of administrators, child study teams, related service providers, Special Education Teachers, and Instructional and Personal Aides—all working collaboratively to ensure every child receives the support they need to succeed.

Our department is proud to be staffed by highly skilled and trained professionals who use a variety of evidence-based instructional methods tailored to the diverse learning styles of our students. These include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Discrete Trial, and Direct Instruction, all of which help build foundational skills, encourage independence, and promote meaningful progress.

We also offer a comprehensive Transition Program that prepares students with disabilities for life after high school. This program focuses on developing skills for independence, employment, and continued education—empowering students to make confident and successful transitions into adulthood.

At Paterson Public Schools, we believe that a strong partnership between school and home is essential. We value and expect active parental involvement as a vital part of developing a well-rounded and supportive educational experience for each child. When families and educators work together, students are empowered to reach their full potential.

Thank you for visiting our page. We look forward to working alongside you to ensure every student receives the support, respect, and opportunities they deserve.
