Supporting Displaced, Homeless, and Unaccompanied Youth
At Paterson Public Schools, we understand that families sometimes face unexpected challenges—and we want you to know that you are not alone. If you or your child are experiencing housing instability, our district is here to provide support, stability, and access to education through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
Under this law, children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence may qualify for services if they are:
-
Sharing housing due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or similar reasons
-
Living in hotels, motels, campgrounds, or shelters
-
Residing in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, or substandard housing
-
Living in places not intended for regular sleeping accommodations
-
Abandoned in hospitals or awaiting foster care placement
-
Unaccompanied youth without a parent or guardian
If any of these situations apply to you or someone you know, please reach out to us right away. We are here to ensure your child can continue their education without interruption—no matter their living situation.
