Initiative

  • A Full Service Community School is a school in which service agencies and schools team up to meet a whole range of children's social, emotional, and academic needs, using the school building as a hub. Through outside partnerships, students and families can benefit from services such as a mental health counselor, a bilingual family caseworker, after-school enrichment, a health center, dental care, nutrition, and counseling.

    The Full Service Community Schools initiative has grown significantly over the years.

    • 2010 - Paterson was awarded the Federal Full Service Community Schools Grant and selected School 5 as the first school to launch FSCS
    • 2011 - PPS added New Roberto Clemente and Reverend Dr. Frank Napier Academy
    • 2013 - School 6 and School 15 were launched as FSCS
    • 2015 - Paterson received their second Full Service Grant to continue to support Schools 15 and School 6
    • 2018 - Paterson received their third Full Service Grant and added many services and programs at School 2 and John F. Kennedy Educational Complex.
    • 2021 - Full Service supports and programs were started at School 16, Joseph A. Taub, and the Alonzo “Tambua” Moody Academy (ATM). 
    • 2022 - Paterson received our fourth Full Service Grant to expand programs and services at School 16 and ATM to continue to address barriers students and families may have in education. Additionally,
    • 2023 - The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation supports Eastside High School (EHS) as a FSCS through the “One Square Mile Initiative”
    • 2024 - PPS was awarded a multi-district 5-year grant adding services at Schools 10, Eastside High School, and International High School, and allowing for the sharing of best practices with Passaic Public School #6 and Passaic High School.

    Each of our FSCS continues to respond to the needs assessments of the community and provides medical, social, and academic services to students and members of the community
