The Five Levers

  • Paterson Public Schools has developed an initiative designed to promote accelerated student growth in academic performance through improvement in five areas that have a direct impact on student performance.

Lever 1 - Human Resources

  • How do we employ HR efforts to strategically address vacancies attributed to the achievement of underperforming schools?

How do we attract talented intra-district teachers/staff to hard-to-fill positions/schools?

How do we strategically attract and assign out-of-district/new hires to hard-to-fill positions in underperforming schools?

Lever 2 - Data Literacy

  • How can we aggressively accelerate the data literacy of school leaders and specific staff members?

How do we facilitate the normalization of using data to drive instruction and respond to current student performance?  (Response to Data - RTD)

Lever 3 - Staff Capacity

  • What are the focus areas of instruction that will yield the greatest ROI (standards/skills) for students - which may be revealed in Form C and NJSLA results?

How do we aggressively provide targeted PD so staff members can implement turnkey strategies to teach/reteach selected promising ROI standards and skills?

Lever 4 - Principal Capacity

  • How can we support and strengthen our School Leaders' capacities to lead, implement, monitor, and provide actionable feedback regarding the above mentioned efforts related to building Data Literacy and Staff Capacity?

Lever 5 - Parental Support

  • How can we encourage optimum attendance and on-time arrival for students in underperforming schools?

How can we inform and encourage parents to reinforce foundational ELA and Math skills in the home? (K-2)
